The consequences include; increased soil salinity and soil temperature decreasing moisture and increasing loss of essential biotic components from the soil.

The typical plant bought at a "big box" store has left a huge ecological footprint in its wake. Often more resources are gobbled in the attempt to keep the plant on life support in an ill-suited environment.
